Abortion pills will now be available for free in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams announced Tuesday.
The Big Apple will start offering the pills at a city-run clinic in the Bronx Wednesday before making them available in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens by the end of the year.
Unlike hospitals already offering the pills, these clinics will not collect insurance or billing information.
The move comes as the pills become a center point of America’s heated abortion debate. On Tuesday, a Texas abortion group filed to revoke regulatory approval for the drugs.
While the procedure is protected and widely available in New York, some women have faced long travel times and other barriers since the Supreme Court overturned federal protections of abortion rights over the summer.
